DRO Install Complete

Some final pix of the overall setup of the mill and scales.  I hadn’t expected the supplied mounting system for the DRO to be of use – but with the creation of a simple mounting plate I was able to tie it securely to the wall, and it is just at the right height.  I can swing it to the left for more access to the electronics bench, if need be.

Y-Axis with scale cabling

A side view showing the Y-Axis scale.  The DRO can be seen in the back - still not mounted to the wall

DRO Wall Mount

Four 1/4-2o T-nuts were installed in a square of MDF, which were used to hold the DRO mounting bracket.  This block was attached to the wall with sheetrock mounting screws. The DRO can be pivoted out of the way as needed. Installing with the mounting bracket makes the DRO very accessible - worth the effort.

Scale-to-DRO attachements

The scale cables are plenty long (2 meters) for a small installation such as this.  They are screw-mounted to the back of the DRO

Z-Axis read-head attachement

This is a close-in view, looking over the electronics control box, showing the Z-Axis scale and how it ties to the movable mill head. I used the screw-hole from the replaced torsion spring to attach the standoff to the mill head.
