Arrival on the doorstep

The mill comes with 16-TPI lead screws which means each revolution of the X & Y axis would be measured at .0625 per div. That did not make for easy dial counting, so I opted for the 20 TPI/.050 lead screw mod kit.  Also had read the air spring mod to replace the torsion-spring control of the mill head was also a Good Thing.  So did it right out of the box.

But first we have to get it to the second floor...

Installing upgrades

I ordered the 20-TPI leadscrew and air-spring upgrade kits along with the mill. So the first order of business will be to clean up the machine and get the upgrades installed.

A folding table was set up in the living room, outside the den/shop area, and work began.

Tapping a hole for the air spring

The air spring replacement for the (rather crude) torsion spring is a must-do upgrade.  Makes for far more practical head management.  Here I had to tap a hole for the mounting hardware.

Just a view of the solid column removed from the base.  Air-spring can be see sticking up on the right side.
